Finally attach the jump ring and necklace clasp at the end of the ribbon. As an option, you can also leave the tail ends long and tie into a ribbon instead of installing the clasp. Fabric and Wood Bead necklaces
I’ve been totally inspired by all the wood jewelry I’ve been seeing. I bought an awesome wood bead necklace from Old Navy last week (and btw, when did Old Navy start selling awesome jewelry??) and was inspired to create some original new accessories of my own using wood craft beads and fabric! I started off by getting a great variety of Knit fabrics. Think Jersey and cotton Tshirt fabric. Fabrics that have a stretch and when cut don’t fray! These craft beads are perfect. They are sold in a variety pack and come in a variety of stains and sizes and are sealed and shiny! For this first version I used my rotary cutter and cut 3 long (the width of my fabric) 1 inch strips of fabric. I used a metal skewer to help guide the fabric through the beads. In between each bead I tied a knot. I then braided and knotted the ends and secured the ends with Ribbon Clasps. *******

This morning I pottered around my garden at home and collected a few flowering things for the shop. I arranged some pink bougainvillea and some native gum leaves in a couple of shell encrusted baskets I picked up in Bali a while ago. There’s something so Summery and vibrant about bougainvillea and I do love it mixed in with a few classic blue and white ginger jars. Above is one of a pair of amazing hand beaded African chairs we have in the shop at the moment. I think these chairs are a favourite of mine right now. To think of the work that goes into them… We just received this gorgeous geometric patterned rug in today. The girls and I couldn’t wait to put it in place under our bright orange coffee table in our front lounge room display. I think it has added so much colour to the shop…I just love it and I am very tempted to take it home! Just thought you might like to see a few of the new things we have in at the moment.

Open Today: Mas Malo Revives Restored Downtown Space
Rolled eggplant and potato tacos (Lindsay William-Ross/LAist) NEXT ? If you’ve ever climbed the carpeted stairs to Downtown’s favorite whiskey bar, 7 Grand, you may have wondered what was on the ground floor, and behind the wall to your left. For several years that space remained vacant, and only now has been restored, renovated, and re-purposed as an even more east-side sibling of Silver Lake’s popular Malo restaurant. Built in the 1920s as a jewelry store, and home once upon a time to Clifton’s Cafeteria’s Silver Spoon , the space that is Mas Malo incorporates the original murals, vaulted and embellished ceilings, and jewelry display cases into its design. The menu is largely the same as the original restaurant, including the head chef’s family favorite ground beef and pickle tacos that are oh-so-perfect for carnivores who need to soak up a Spicy Cucumber Margarita or two.

What their presence portends for the future of the white nationalist movement remains to be seen. Reflection Upon leaving the conference I hailed the closest taxi and as the driver carried me safely home, I reflected on what was a very long day. What struck me the most about the day was the tone of the conference and the people there. I admit that my preconceived expectations were probably tethered to an imagination gone wild. It’s not that I was expecting to see people burning crosses or singing Nazi anthems per se, but I anticipated a little more anger, a little more foaming-at-the-mouth hatred of non-whites.

You should have a plastic case that you can also get from Wal-Mart and some paper shopping bags to keep under the table to wrap up whatever they buy. In addition, you want to have a business card stand so people can take your business card when they buy from you. HM Fixtures around 6200 area on Jimmy Carter is my favorite spot to go buy retail display stuff and you can go check out jewelry display cases and other type of stuff you can use to have a better table vendor display. Some table vendors take credit card but I really don’t know if it is worth it from my experience. Most customers will just take their ass to an ATM and come back with the money if you convince them and that beats having a mobile merchant setup that can be expensive. Besides, you want to have cash on hand when you are a table vendor for the holidays.

Home Studio Show Wrap Up and Extra Links
Here are a few pics I took from my home show. I had a good turn out and a great time! I will definitely do it again next year and will be sure to promote it earlier and maybe have it last two days long. I might even have another mini sale night in December, if I find there is enough interest from people who missed this weekend’s event… My dining room transformed pretty easily into a fancy jewelry and bead boutique! I used the shelves that usually display my Yixing teapots to hold necklace displays and my kitchen table and slate shipping table to hold bead and more jewelry displays. Jeremy put up a shelf I bought for the room and I filled it up with more displays. It will be used to hold my wine glasses or some kitchen items now that the show is over, but I am pleased to know how easily I can transform the room again for another show! I set up a little table in the living room for my gifts and ornaments. I don’t know where they all came from!

Oh no! Not Another Hobby!
Last week was very stressful for me with my mom’s accident and having to drive back and forth to the hospital which is 2 and a half hours away plus having company. If You Build It…
Lately, I’ve been feeling crafty. I have strong urges to CREATE things with my bare hands. I thought about taking a class to learn how to make some jewelry, but classes are always at wonky times in wonky places and cost more money than I’d like them to. Yesterday, I threw in the towel and picked up some jewelry-making supplies while I was in town. The catch-all store in Farmsville really does have just about everything. Now I have these lovely blue earrings with pale pink on the bottom. I also made a different pair, but my cell phone photo of that one came out too blurry to see close up. Over the years, I’ve dabbled in different forms of art. I took a watercolor painting class in Oregon, so I (kind of) know how to do that. I’ve always wanted to learn how to paint in acrylics as well (on the To-Do list for YEARS). I like making collages, homemade cards, miniatures, and crocheting things. I may not become a Jewelry Master, but I can try.

Changing Seasons
We headed home, and the big kids were home from school. They had a TON of fun helping Jimmy build his birthday presents. And yeah, he totally trashed the remote control in the first 30 minutes, but whatever. He’s just a rough little boy, I guess… And here’s my new bedspread! It’s perfect for fall :) And I was noticing that my jewelry holder from Brent is completely full, and I need an additional one, I think. hehehe. Or I need to stop going to Jewelry Box so often! ROFL! I started on food for the kids, and it smelled SO good. Tomato, Basil, and Garlic pork. Mmmm, so good :) I cut those rolls in half, and made sandwiches for the kids. I just ate the meat, and LOVED it. With cucumbers :) And some microwave popcorn and an apple. See, I’m still eating :) And after we ate, Brent came home. Who was that happy, smiley man who came inside my house? He was laughing and joking and beaming. OK, whatever pills they gave him are MIRACLE drugs. He was crying and depressed and weepy this morning when he left.

Sunday at the Flea Market
Here is a Madeleine doll house. Remeber in the Madeleine books how the dining table and the rows of beds went on forever? In the house they’ve painted them on the walls–how cute. What a nice weasel. I asked the seller about this–he is actually a 1920s German mask for Mardi Gras, with two holes in it for you to see through. My mom and I found so many great things–I have not photographed any of it yet but an art dealer from Oklahoma had some incredible stock that had been in storage for years. I am so excited about it. I must take pictures soon! I got some huge books of Disney animation history too. A pair of harlequin bookends. An amazing pair of Mexican vases that now flank my mom’s desk. A cool candle holder that has now become a jewelry holder. This vintage Jean Paul Gaultier biker jacket was a steal–can’t believe it. What a piece. My little sister Carol has been busy in the kitchen again–look at the beautiful cake she made!! YUM! The doggies want a piece… Townsend, my corgi, being ridiculous.
